"Smartphone OS" is a totally meaningless metric. It's as useful as "laptop OS" versus "desktop OS". Yes, you can report on it, but it begs the question "why?". And the answer is (9 times out of 10) "to make us look good, even though we're losing the battle that really counts".
I'll agree with you that phones that don't include Android Market are included in total figures but the big players in Android are the likes of HTC, Motorola, LG, Samsung e.t.c who all include access to Android Market, not to mention Google's 350,000 activations a day that all have access google services and in turn include the Market.

Of course total iOS penetration can be counted in a different metric and there is nothing that anyone who wants to bash Apple can say to the massive success they've had. iOS is an unrivalled juggernaut as it stands today.

There is no reason in the world for Apple NOT to introduce the new iPhone at WWDC...except for the possibility that they are disastrously behind in development. Which would be simply embarrassing.

Here is my take on this.
Apple has this market wrapped up. People don't know what an MP3 player is, they know what an iPod is.
Those who love the Zune are hypocrites. Everyone hates the iPod. Why? Inferior everything. Plus you are locked into the iPod/iTunes/iTMS and can't do what you want with your music.
Now, MS is doing the same thing. And everyone praises it. They are pulling the same add campaign as Sandisk was. Conforming isn't cool, don't be a sheep. If everyone starts buying a Zune aren't you still a sheep if you buy it? Not to mention they are dumping PlaysForSure, the DRM they helped build, and screwing tons of people who have bought PFS music already. Not to mention screwing their partners.
The fact that the will buy you out of iTunes shows what kind of game they are playing. They don't care about consumers, all they care about is winning. All I can say is they are 5 years late to the ball game. Good luck.

Remember once someone sells you something they can not tell you how you can use it. That like you buying a car and in the purchase agreement they tell you your not allow to wreck the car. Grant it, they do not have to warranty it after you wreck it, but if you want to wreck it, that is up to you.

I hope this does not become a repeat of what happened back in the 80's. That is, first Apple comes out with great products and all is well for some time. Then Microsoft comes out with a poor copy of that product then takes 95% of the market.

Maybe something in the higher models needed 2gb of ram.. Or apple is just being its kinds self and giving us 2gb instead of 1gb to make us happy :) Or trick us into thinking we are getting a good deal for our money when we really arnt! Ahh the confusing ways of apples marketing structure! But I sure cant wait for my 2.33GHz stock 15.4inch Macbook pro! I will be paying that back for the rest of my life ;)

Do some research on what tall buildings do to cell towers/signal and the ability for your phone to handle constant hand-offs between thousands of towers. Trust me, sky scrapers make it impossible for Verizons, T-mobile, or any other carriers service to be much better than the rest. The other carriers are just better about hiding their shortcomings from the public.

I HAD NOT ONE DROPPED CALL WITH VERIZON IN 5 YEARS.
No he is right. They all struggle with sky scrapers. Verizon happens to use a stronger signal than AT&T so it cuts threw building a little better but on top of that Verizon does not have to deal with towers being over loaded by iPhone users.
Most of the drop calls happen during tower hand offs and if the tower you need to be handed off to is max out well your call gets dropped.
Now if you want example of Verizon problems I was getting dropped calls all the time for months a few years ago with verizon and dump them for sprint.
As for example of building problems on another carrier sprint I could give you a this strip on campus about 50'x50' that as soon as you walked into it your call would drop. Same area multiple sprint phones multiple calls. Just a random dead zone on campus for sprint. AT&T had at least one spot on campus that was almost the exact same way. Skyscrappers make it insane for all carriers to deal with and on top of that you have tons of tower hand offs.

The new features look pretty cool...but I generally think it's worth getting the upgrades just for fixes and optimizations.

Although I'd love a new enclosure with the HD swapability of the MB, I didn't think this round of updates would include that. Besides, I'm thinking that when the MBP form factor changes significantly with new latch, HD swapping, etc, we'll see Steve on stage for that one!
I'm pleased with this update - more RAM (lot's more than expected, thanks apple!!!), decent HD options (for my needs - only $100 more to upgrade to the 160GB/5400 - I'm good with that), and FW800 returns to the 15".
Thanks Apple. Now I'll patiently wait for refurbs of these (6-8 weeks) and I'm ordering. Or, should I finally join ADC and get the faster 15" with discount basically gives me one year of ADC for free.... :)

Yes. It's a great machine and very capable. I don't experience any overheating issues or such. However, at night, when I'm asleep, I run it on a cooling pad in the kitchen for those "just-in-case" moments. However, during the day, I just run it without the cooling pad since it's pretty loud.

He is living his life. I agree with a lot of his "quotes". AA is crap, people are trolling him and he may just be a rockstar from Mars (Lil Wayne is an alien after all). He seems to love his kids and his women do too. What's worse? Someone with an alternative lifestyle that takes care of their kids or someone with a "great lifestyle" that beats them on the side. People are pissed because he stood up and talked out about Chuck and many people (union members, yuck) are out of jobs for now. If they were still getting paid they wouldn't be whining. Also it shows how powerful he is if a whole production is shut down without him. Should he go on for others? I don't think so. He doesn't agree with it and won't do it.
I say go epic on the world Mr. Sheen.
