Hello gurus,
What is the good reason to be specified for visitor visa extension? I understand that USCIS may reject extension application if the reason is not good. Appreciate any helpful responses

Please click on the link above to read the stories about the H1/H4 stamping. I know it is for people with research background only, but I heard general cases (like engineering, sports,,) being stuck for more than 3 months as well.

Some 63,000 flights had been canceled in Europe by the end of Sunday, in the four days since the air space of northern Europe was shut down by an enormous ash cloud from an erupting volcano beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland.
Passengers are scrambling to find alternative travel routes. German tourists are being bussed home from Spain, while the Royal Navy is sending military ships to Spain to bring home stranded Brits. Thousand of Europeans are also stuck in the US with no option to leave at this time. Many visitors are worried about the implications of not being able to leave before their current status expires.
Foreign nationals stranded in the U.S. because of the airport closures in Europe due to the Icelandic volcano eruption and who are about to exceed their authorized stay in the U.S. have two avenues for relief. If at an airport and traveling under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), they should contact the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office at the airport. They may also contact the local U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office. Both Department of Homeland Security agencies have provided their staff and offices with guidance on the applicable legal authorities under the VWP in circumstances such as this.
Persons traveling under a visa should contact the nearest USCIS office and follow the instructions below. While these instructions recommend initiating the process 45 days in advance, USCIS is providing reminder guidance on how to handle such cases until normal flights are scheduled between the U.S. and foreign countries affected by the Icelandic volcanic activity.
We keep monitoring the situation and will update our readers as we obtain more news.

Ezra Klein - Should states set their own immigration quotas? (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/11/should_states_set_their_own_im.html)
The Kauffman Foundation has a report out ranking the "new economy" states. Their methodology "measures the extent to which state economies are knowledge-based, globalized, entrepreneurial, IT-driven and innovation-based in other words, to what degree state economies structures and operations match the ideal structure of the New Economy." The winners? Massachusetts, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey and Connecticut. The laggards? Mississippi, West Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama and Wyoming.
I never really know what to make of reports like this, but one of the metrics is "immigration of knowledge workers," which really isn't under the control of individual states. Visa quotas are set by the federal government. But why? There are a lot of places where a national solution really is best, but that seems particularly untrue in immigration. Detroit, for instance, has a lot of empty houses, a lot of shuttered factories, and a lot of emigration. They could probably use a bunch of immigrants to occupy homes, buy things, and start businesses. Similarly, California has had a pretty good experience with letting highly skilled immigrants start tech firms in the Northern part of the state. Maybe they'd like to let even more of them in to do it. These graphs explain the potential appeal (click for a larger version):
immigrantbusinesses.jpg
There are obvious difficulties with having a California visa that doesn't work in Oregon. But we have limited visas now -- think student visas, or temporary agricultural workers -- and we seem to get by all right. Another concern would be that certain states would be overtaken by xenophobia and basically shut off immigration, though Arizona suggests that you can do quite a lot to make immigrants miserable even without changing the number of available visas, and my hunch is that any state that went too far in this direction would face a tremendous outcry from its business community.

It looks like a mighty fine camera. I have to admit there are times I'd like to have a camera in personal situations without the obvious "look at me I've got a big camera" 1D.
