According to one website http://www.immigration-law.com the USCIS is working on trying to streamline processing I-140 petitions to four months by April 2009. I quote the following from the website

Going by the previous track record of the USCIS though, I do have reasons to be skeptical about that. We will find out in April eventually, unless our invididual petitions get approved before that. The only issue is that in the interim we still have the threat to jobs in this bad economy. The other concern of mine is that older petitions might get dumped into another Backlog Elimination Center and they only work efficiently on newer I-140 petitions. That solution would be hell for people with older I-140 applications

Set up your own company LLC. and ask them to sign corp-corp or 1099 and you be the sole owner of this company.
This way even if you dont get full time offer you can defend self employment.
W2 Contract can be a problem because of USCIS's perception of permanent job.

last month i had emailed questions to Edward Kennedy and Jack Reid as a part of yahoo talk to the power. They were not picked up. It seems that the questions should be related to the topic that is given in advance. If they decide to question some one on a toic specifically on immigration reform, then your questions might move forward.
Maybe if we get in touch with her we can convince her to initiate such a discussion.

I remember the anticipation among IV members before the monthly bulletin came out. As many EB2 folks have got GC looks like the craze has died down. Very few replies to the visa bulletin thread.

Hi,
-I got my I140 approved in MAY 2006.
-I got my 3 years H1B based on I140 approval. I went to India for stamping as I was out of status for 10 months due to 7th year extension pending for a long time with USCIS.
- I came to USA on this H1B in JUNE'2006 with approval until JUNE'2009.
-On JAN 2007, my company has received a letter from USCIS to 'INTENT TO Revoke' the approved I140.
-My employer responded to USCIS letter with required documents.
-We are waiting for USCIS decision.
In this situation
1.Will my H1B also be revoked if I140 is revoked?
2. Can I transfer my H1B to another employer. How much time do I have?
3. If I transfer my H1B(i have approval until JUNE2009), can I apply new labor and I140 and get extension again after 2009.
Any other suggestions , help that you can do. Please advise?

You can write a balance-transfer-cheque to your own name (which you can deposit to your checkings account) of amount upto your credit limit on that credit card.
I had 25k credit limit on my credit card, so i could balance-transfer that much. usually if you have a 3-4 years credit history, you can call up the credit card company and ask them to raise your credit limit.
Balance transfers - 0% APR are generally good for 9 months to 1 year loan only. So you will have to repay within a year. But you can keep doing that for 2-3 years till you pay off your complete loan.

Why even this discussion. there are many who no longer work for the sponsor even before getting the GC. What do you think happens if they find out? have you heard of anybody whose GC was affected?
because this will be a question when the candidate goes for citizenship. If candidate cannot convince the officer that his/her intention was to work with GC sponsor then citizenship may not be given.

My take on the permanent solution:
1. Recapture lost visa numbers
It will need change in law. Cannot be done without senate and congress approval
2. Medical tests are going to be valid indefinitely
Possibily but cannot be a big news, especially if we are talking about near term good news
3. Ppl who've worked for X years automatically can apply for I-485
