The RC Car is the least of the problems with the game. While it is plain out "GAY"...it very easy to stop...just ****ing shoot it...i've done it countless times.

The size of the maps and the god awful spawns are the biggest issue with the game. The design forces people to shoot and move or die. And thats the only strategy in the game. It doesn't allow for different styles of play. Its the worst Call of Duty yet.

It is against forum rules to simply reply "+1": what on earth is the difference between that and clicking a button to say "+1"?
The difference is, clicking the vote button doesn't add a useless post to the thread and doesn't increase the voter's post count (since many have used +1 posts in the past to artificially boost their post counts for avatars, etc.)

what if they make an amd based substitute of the 12' powerbook? that'd be awesome, I would definitely go for it. i really miss a pro laptop that's not as big as the 15' .... the macbooks with their plastic alloy and glossy screen aren't appealing at all, considering they don't even have a decent graphic card....:(

Minimum wages = unemployment, lower growth
child labor laws = limits free will and opportunities for youngsters
max hours per week = limits free will, opportunity for higher personal revenue
workplace safety = bureaucracy, red tape, lower growth

Don't be naive. The goals are the same, more wealth, health, prosperity, and safety for all. Conservatives simply disagree with your methods. They realize that a hand-out is NEVER the same as a hand-up, and that wealth earned is not generally earned at the expense of others, but rather to their benefit.

Nope- these are all lies proven to be so during the industrial revolution. We know what business does when these things are left unchecked. And don't say the free market will take care of them. There is too much evidence from history to show it won't. And the goals are not the same at all. Business will take advantage of it's worker in a heartbeat if they're permitted.

BTW, the anti-gay segment has no business being in this bill. All politicians should realize that individual bills should be able to stand on their own two feet instead of sneaking them by in such a disgustingly snake-in-the-grass fashion.

Then prove it and come out against this bill. Or again, does it not matter since you got yours?

I think Macbook Pros will be updated at MWSF. Also, doubt the true video iPod will be out by then... all the designs being thrown around look too high-tech for now, and issues with scratches on the touch screen will have to be taken care of as well. I'd say more like Holiday 2007 for that~
If it takes that long before C2D finds its way into the MBP, I think Apple will be laughed at by a lot of the other manufacturers who have already announced models due before the holiday season.

With regards to this particular ad, should we presume from your comment that you are not an engineer, a doctor, a business person, a teacher, a student, a parent or a child? All these folks love their iPads.

I guess people without children that do not fall under any of those careers can't like iPads :(

I would prefer the cheaper and more effective way; profiling.

Also, you can't say security has been working well-- look at the number of incidences of things going through security accidentally via negligence (knives, guns, etc)-- while there's no official numbers, the anecdotal evidence is quite moving.

Actually, there is documented evidence (which I'm not going to look up, because it supports your contention). The TSA does publish numbers (though buried deep in their reports) on the number of times undercover agents are able to slip weapons through security on training/testing runs. The number is quite high, if you look at it in a "Sky is falling way". But that is the incomplete picture.

Suppose, just for argument's sake, you actually have a 50/50 chance of slipping something through security. Is that "good enough" to mount an operation? Consider that there are at least a dozen people involved, to support just one operative. You can try to separate them into cells - but that doesn't mean that they are entirely hidden... it just gives them time to try to escape while their links are followed. Plus, there is a lot of money involved.

Do you risk those 12 people, plus a large chunk of scarce resources, on a venture that only has a 50/50 chance of getting something onto the plane. (we haven't even considered that most bombs on planes lately have not gone off properly, eg. shoe bomber and underwear bomber)... or that if the intent is to forcibly take over the plane there might be sky marshall - or just a plane load of passengers who are not going to sit idly by.

So you try and reduce that risk by making the plan more "fool proof" and sophisticated - but this adds complexity ...and complex things/plans breakdown and require more resources and more people. More people means adding people with doubts, and the chances of leaking. Plus more resources, which brings attention to the operation. And as you add more people and resources, the "downside" to being caught gets bigger, so you try to reduce that risk by making it even more "foolproof".

If you are one of the 12+ people supporting the operative, and you have a 50/50 chance of being caught and spending a very long and nasty session in jail - even before you get your day in court - and you have no chance of the "ultimate reward" .... don't you think you might start having doubts, and talking to people? Sometimes the wrong people?

I don't buy for a minute all of the stories of traffic cops stopping a car for a routine check and finding "bad things" that were going to be used. The intelligence services have, imho, a pretty good idea of what is happening in these groups, and use these innocent looking traffic stops (and other coincidental discoveries) so that their undercover agents aren't suspected.

That is the value, imo, of the security checks. The barriers are are high enough to get the "bad" operations big and cumbersome, and to make the plans too complex to escape notice by the authorities. It's the planning and organization of getting past the security checks that the authorities are looking for. Once that "bad thing" is in the airport, the authorities have already lost most of the game. Then the security screening is just a last ditch attempt to catch something.

The real danger is the single lone-wolf person with a grudge, who hasn't planned in advance, and doesn't really care if they get caught. They have a 50/50 chance of getting through because the only security layer at that point is the security checkpoint. The intelligence services will not have picked them up, nor will the no-fly list incidentally.

.... all of this is just mho, of course..... read the later john lecarre though, for more chilling details....

TechFlash noted (http://www.techflash.com/seattle/2009/10/verizon_goes_right_after_att_with_new_ad_campaign.html) yesterday that Verizon is rolling out a new advertising campaign targeting AT&T's network by focusing on the geographic coverage of the competing companies' networks. The campaign also employs a twist on Apple's "There's an app for that" iPhone slogan with its own tagline of "There's a map for that."The fine print also is worth checking out. It reads: "Browse the Web and download music and apps, at 3G speed, in five times more places than the nation's number two wireless carrier. Before you pick a phone, pick a network."A television commercial featuring the new campaign also debuted yesterday.

Android 2.3 (and I think 2.2) support wi/fi tethering in the OS, no app needed. If you have an android phone with 2.2 or 2.3 (I do because ATT service sucked where I live), just select SETTINGS then WIRELESS & Networks, then "Tethering & portable hotspot" to set the phone up as a wi/fi hub with data access.

I haven't used the iphone in a while (since moving to T-MO), so I don't know if IOS supports something similar.

I guess I mean support without any hacks necessary.

As long as you had enough RAM, the right processor, and the right version of Mac OS X, it was supported. It hasn't changed in the low level requirements. :)

My machine didn't have enough RAM, so it was immediately rejected. However, they were doing me a favour because the dual and dual core G5s still had performance issues with it.

    Showoff ;)

You're basically bragging that you have $100K in Apple stock. Nice!!!! :D Your faith is being rewarded handsomely...

I do have a great deal of faith. My friends think I am nuts. Half the money is on margin and I am paying $420 a month in interest. Just a few months ago when it was down to $50 I had a margin call and I was in the hole $28K before having to dump 10K to cover the call. I did not mind since I did cash out last year with a nice 29K profit.

Apple is a strong company with over $10 billion in cash and a growth rate unmatched in the industry. If I can hang in and keep it I will double my money in a little over a year.

I did not want to show off but point out that we mac addicts are willing to put our money where our mouths are.

Someone over at the Display forum at Apple's discussion boards mentioned he had a chat with someone from Apple Support and that he told him the specs were already in circulation from April but that they were only now updated on the webpages.

There is also no way of telling if you have a display with the newer specs or not, since there isn't another product code for this.

Not again... The database in question is NOT used by Apple to actively track users. It's a local cache on your phone, sent to you from Apple. This database serves a legitimate purpose on your phone to improve the performance of location services.
The issue is that this DB can be used by others (not Apple) to gain in-site into your relative location over time. Technically I wouldn't even call this a 'bug' since it's working as designed. However it is a serious oversight on Apples part.

FTR - Apple does collect location data from your phone (assuming you opted-in). This tracking is done via entirely different process than is being discussed. active tracking means real time reporting, the data base is just to record it, they can say they erase the data base on your device but that does not mean they did not record it on their side, its like firefox says in their agreement, regardless of private browsing, the ISP can still record the traffic and know what websites and all you been looking at, search engines can even help them find words that match their desired character, whats strange to me is what this article says,

...VIA has done more to hurt AMD's acceptance in the mainstream than Intel could ever have hoped to do.

Anyone know who's making the fantabulously spotty logic boards for the MacBook Pros? They bought one for me at work and it's getting ready to go in for its 3rd logic board replacement. I've used Macs since '92 and owned several of my own since '96 and I've never had to replace anything but a worn out (noisy) fan in a PowerMac. This thing's really starting to annoy me.

it would mean backstabbing and betrayal if apple went with amd.

Seriously though, what's the big deal? These days CPU's don't cost much more than mid-range GPU's, but you don't hear anyone freaking out when Apple offers both NVidia *and* ATI GPU's in the Mac Pro and the iMac.
