I agree with you that series hybrids gain efficiency by running the internal combustion engine at a narrow RPM range representing the engine's most efficient speed. It's been done for over a hundred years that way in generators and a series hybrid drivetrain is set up exactly the same way as a generator.
One thing to remember about eletric cars is remember most people will be charging them at night during the off peak hours. There is a lot of spare capacity during that time so we can push a lot more plug in hybrids on to the grid than you think.
Personally I believe hybrids are what will be our bridge between our current mode of personal transportation to what ever our next one will be. They are not the final solution but what will connect the 2 things.

Just give Apple & Stevie boy an award for the most tech headlines. Assure him ego boosting daily publicity to fill the insatiable need for attention, just like any 2 year old kid :)

And different browsers didn't appear for a long while I thought.
There still aren't any full third party browsers that reside wholly on the device.
Apple doesn't allow it, because it could lead to being able to run apps that Apple didn't approve, and/or security holes.
There's no Chrome, Firefox, standalone Opera.
They only allow shells around their own browser core (and now not even their best core, because of JIT security worries)... or things like Opera Mini where code is executed on a remote server.

With this supposed delay, Apple better have more than that ready... I want to have something worth bragging about to avenge myself after holding onto my 3GS while everyone else got the 4. The wireless credit card thing, coupled with 4G and a bigger screen, and a new iOS with improved notifications would do it for me... Less and I'll be a little disappointed, to say the least. Oh, throw in a wireless charger, that'd be really cool (and make external battery packs more feasible... imagine having a charging pocket on your pants... Whenever your iPhone is it your pocket it automatically charges... Or whenever it's in your purse for the ladies... That'd be pretty sweet...)

What gives anyone the right to put down another person's passion or something they're enthusiastic about? If a friend of mine buys an expensive new car and it didn't suit my own personal taste, I would at least try and be polite about it and not belittle them by saying "what a pile of crap! you spent all that money on that piece of junk?" It's damn rude!
A friend of a friend of mine who once visited my apartment made a snide comment about my iMac. I immediately replied "your t-shirt makes you look fat and ugly", which was met by a very awkward moment of silence. I followed up by saying "don't be rude about my personal taste and I won't be rude about yours."
Needless to say he probably left thinking I'm some nutter who has an unhealthy relationship with my computer, but I'm glad I made the point.
But I do agree that a lot of it is just jealousy. I've known many people who were once very vocal about their hate for Apple and the iPhone, who have since become iPhone owners themselves and now love it.
And perhaps you could remind those who smirk that you've spent 500 on your phone that they too will likely be paying a similar amount for their smartphone over the course of their contract, but with an unlocked iPhone you also have the added benefit of being able to take advantage of much cheaper "sim only" tariffs which you're not locked in to.

Why would Apple change the aesthetic look of iPhone after 3 generations without any added benefit for making the change?

I love how these type of topics bring up all sorts of off the wall comments from politics, to legality of things.
The bottom line is, the carriers are not a fan of customers going around the system.. whatever that "system" is. Where Apple has played along with the carriers, Android devices have promoted going around the system and it looks like the carriers are not happy about this.
In the long run, everything finds it level.

So is contrast ratio just mean it can be brighter (700:1 compaired to 400:1)?

Is Windows 8 then Windows 7.0, like Windows Seven is actually Windows 6.1?
Thats just the NT version. Windows 8 will be 6.2
7 was 6.1,
Vista was 6.0
XP was 5.0
Technically Windows 7 is the 10th version of Windows, if you don't count Windows Server.
Windows 7 is the 7th version if you count from Windows 95.

I'm not surprised by this, it's pressure from the carriers.

Well I don't know about you but if I saw someone beating the **** out of someone else while I'm working I would certainly get involved. And I would expect the same consideration from others.
If your employed somewhere part of your job is keeping the peace.
You expect employees who make minimum wage to break up a fight? They should call the cops, but for sure not break up a fight.

some stuff that I don't know anything about. So then I like to look at the votes and see if this is something that is good or bad for Apple.
The voting on the front page has nothing to do with what's good for Apple. Sorry you've been deceived into thinking as much for so long, though.

Do we even know if this update is also for the Verizon iPhone or just the AT&T? And no, bug fixes cover up my jailbreak.

I can't not eat a Ben & Jerry's in one sitting...
it's impossible, cause as you eat it, it gets softer...then if you put it back into the freezer, its rock hard!!

Purely due to the amount of manufacturers creating Android devices.
Which is the entire problem with Android. And which is why you will never, ever, see any single Android device outsell the iPhone.

So is this meant to be an ad for the iPad 2 or the future generations? All it does is make me more excited for upcoming models, not the iPad 2 itself. I don't doubt that it will be effective though.
