I just thought I will play the devil's advocate.
It could be that $100 or $50 is a big amount for people. Maybe people do not make $80K a year, just half of that (there are may H1Bs like that). Micro-payments may be a better option for some people. Do we want to disallow those contributions as well? People who want to pay will pay and people who do not want to pay will not pay. I guess we just have to make sure that we donot deny the people who want to pay but cannot. :)
I am willing to go along with monthly payments as there seems to be a consensus on this forum that it is the best option.

For the last state chapter (Diwali Mela) event in North CA we were accepting ANY AMOUNT for a contribution, but were suggesting $25 or $50.
How many contributed? About 20 from a state chapter that boasts of 150+ members.
The fact is, people do one of the following:
1. look at the recommended amount and contribute that amount (most of our donors were $25, and a few paid $50)
2. pay a high $ amount simply because (s)he is convinced he wants to help as much as possible! (Most of the volunteers for the event paid $50 or more, and three of them paid $90/$100 each)
3. DO NOT pay, no matter what, as they are not convinced it will help reduce their waiting time
One more time... IV is not turning anyone away. If you can only contribute $10 a month, please feel free to paypal it yourself to donations at immigrationvoice.org
Like the squirrel who helped Lord Rama construct the bridge (sorry for making this a slightly "Indian" post, but can't think of a better analogy) every small bit is going to help IV, and will be most appreciated!
However, the bridge to the GC is a long one, and our Lord Rama (IV) needs thousands of hard-working and contributing monkeys to make it a reality:D

that would most certainly be the politically correct thing to say. Unfortunately, most people don't come with an OFF/ON switch.. Yesterday, I was a citizen of X - country , I support X whole heatedly, today, I am a citizen of Z - country, so I will support Z whole heatedly - more so because the whole naturalization process is not an OFF/ON switch either.

Skinning the wheel is too easy, all you have to do is plop the graphic down and set the blending accordingly. Leaving the wheel stock makes it harder because you gotta get the elliptical out.

You should not have gotton H1B visa in the first place, as H1b visas are for professionals and there are many professionals stuggle to get an h1b visas even after engineering degrees. In your case, IGNOU is a shame. Its worse than University of Pheonix. If you get a greencard in EB2, it will be a biggest mockery of the USCIS and department of labor.
If you believe IGNOU or Univ of Pheonix are fraudulent, Please provide proof of this and also report to USCIS.
Its not purely education that will get you H1 or GC. You also need to be skilled in your field.
You might look down on certain universities or degrees but in the end employers care more about skill and experience and so does USCIS

I dunno about which bank is the best but I guarantee this ICICI does sucks! they act like as if they are ruling NRI. and of course like anyone else we had a very bad experience talking with their home loan dept too. Honestly - If I may say something about this....I can say this with 100% confidence that sooner or later we all will witness their demise. count on it.
The point is that they cannot JUST do this to us(NRI) or I can say it is we who made their success if they are really. but by the sheer power of community like this - we can definitely teach them a good lesson by just quit banking with ICICI. guess what you will be proud of what you did in the very near future. SBI still IS doing reasonably well and you still can get better rates though.

I urge all to read "The story of my experiments with truth" by Mahatma Gandhi (if you haven't already). While in a prison in South africa.. he spent his time in jail making a leather shoe for the white supremacist who put him in jail. This is the prime example of loving the person but fighting the ideas he stands for. This was also depicted in the move-- "Gandhi my father"

I faced a similar opposition when we spoke against labor substitution-- fast forward 3 years.... do we all agree that labor substitution was damaging to EB immigration?

People want to bash consultancies for their practices. I am currently trying to recruit a c++ programmer to work with me, and I find resumes on dice from US citizens and GC holders, most of these resumes are bloated to a large extent.
Resume bloating is a common practice, there will be very few honest people, it is upto the employer to do strict scrutiny on resumes.
Let us not associate resume bloating or consultancies with retro situation.

DOL should not have given this advance notice, I am sure that all Desi consulting companies now aware of this rule will try to sell of their approved labors before April and approved labors will be available even in vegetable market.
There is lot of chance they would do this, and unfortunately we cannot avoid that, lets counter this by creating awareness among our members and GC seeker's community of how much risk involved in buying an approved labor at this time.
