Sen. Cornin submited an ammendment for all Shedule "A"!
Wondering why all are so calm... Do we realy lost our hope for immigration this year?

Senator Cornyn has offered an amendment SA 2143 to the current appropriation bill HR1585. The bill provides relief for nurses under schedule A.

Recapture of Unused Employment-Based Immigrant Visas.--
``(C) those immigrant workers who had petitions approved based on Schedule A under section 656.5 of title 20, Code of Federal Regulations, as promulgated by the Secretary of Labor.'';
I guess that's us, got that from Thomas Library. The bill is being considered in the Senate.
Durbin also got one "favorable" amm. for us - another $1500 for each recaptured visa number. I believe after all expenses, and all time spended on the immigration and exams, majority of us could deal with that extra cost, or "bonus" if you like::))) So I hope that Durbin's amm. will calm down anti-immigrant forses and Cornin'n one will pass!

Any trend of backlogs getting cleared?
My employer is a big wall street investment bank, and they have filed my PERM on May 14th.
The trend for PERM certification at Atlanta, as per my employer is between 90-120 days. Because they handled so many PERM cases at Atlanta, they know this trend.
Nothing muck we can do here. Just pray and hope for the best.

Finally we have decided to forgo (just for now) the process of writing letter to the NSC Director as it might not add much weight to the process, as congressional office would be repeating the same argument that my Attorney has made regarding the AC21, which a supervisor is already looking at.
I have already waited for 3 months. Another 2 months might take its toll on my emotional drain.

There is no doubt about NRIs are the prime reason for the real estate boom in India. It is tottally unbelivable that 2 bedroom flat in a normal second class town has gone to up to 40 lakes. Decent independent houses are in terms of crores in small cites. Two factors. One is foreign money and second in black money from local dadas/politicians. Also demand vs supply. The availble land is small and demand for that land is too high due to these two gropus.
I visited one of my NRI friends house in India, where he is not going to live as he is a US citizen. His parents already won two houses and they bought another house as a investment. This house in a recent development area in a small town where there is no high tech employment is avialable; In my feeling it may not worth 5 lakes; they were selling at 45 lakes. Even if anyone ready to pay 45 lakes there is no unit is avialable; everything was sold to NRIs. No resident won the houses in that area. All the dads and mos are baby sitting the houses. Renting alos not that easy. It is tottally unbelivable. I wonder why all the NRIs buying house in India and increisng the house price? The guys working here (or any part of the world) and not going to live in India, why government should allow to buy the house and increse the price? Everyone tries to do real estate bussiness there. That is the main reason for price increase.
Is is sad. All these NRIs are going to learn a very valuable lesson. Speculation is not a good strategy for investing. A lot learned that in the past few months here in USA. In a year we will be seeing the full blown post bubble correction in India. If one can rent an apartment for 15,000 why would one buy it for 50 lakhs. The interest alone on 50 lakhs is 50,000 every month. It is like buy and rent it and loose money. Instead why don't they deposit in a bank and get 50,000 every month:confused:

USCIS to Issue Two-Year EAD for I-485 Waiters at End of June 2008
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security announced on 06/09/2008 that the DHS would start issuing two-year EAD beginning from end of June 2008 for the I-485 filers. Hooray!
Announcement: "I'm also pleased to announce that we will be extending the validity period of the employment authorization documents that we issue to individuals who are waiting adjustment of status to lawful permit residenture or in colloquial phrase, the green card. Currently, adjustment applications are granted employment authorization documents with only a one year maximum validity. Beginning later this month, we'll start issuing these documents with a two-year validity period for aliens who are waiting adjustment of status if their application is expected to be pending for more than a year. This, again, is eliminating a persistent source of frustration for workers who are here, who have a pending adjustment application but have to go and renew their employment documents every single year. It's going to cut the paperwork there."

During previous phone call campaigns, our members came out w/huge numbers and were instrumental in getting the support. This I know because the Senators office phones were just constantly busy and once you started mentioning high skilled, they would know and finish your statements for you. This time though, that does not seem to be the case. Please, please step up. I just called 4 out of TIER 1 again.

The difference is that AOS is handled by USCIS and the CP is done by DOS. It is the USCIS which ran out of the 60000 visas (supposedly) before July 1st even though DOS opened those numbers up for the entire July.
Now, DOS is saying to USCIS " you guys used your quota even before the rush started and so, we won't give you any more visa numbers but, we will continue to honor our quota via CP which we accounted for July". Just my interpretation. Don't shoot the messenger ;)

Hello guys
For many of us, today is payday. What better day than today to make your first time contribution. I understand most of the money that we get is earmarked for something or the other. In a few days we again start our long wait for the next paycheck. On CNBC, I heard one commentator talking about consumers and how apt they were to rearrange their expenditure to the changing environment. For us, the environment is pretty static in the Green card world and there is very little change in the last several years.
So I urge you to rearrange your expenditure and contribute and see the environment change.
Please remember I will contribute $25 for each contribution of $100 from a member who is making this contribution for the first time.

If I may suggest it may help our funding drive if we allow smaller contributions. (20$ or 10$) both recurring and one time.
I know at least a couple of people who would do a 20$ 2-3 times a year but won't do a $50. Anecdotal but may hold true for a lot more people.

In months of June, Jul and Aug , many EADs & APs are up for renewal due to July07 fiasco. So by moving dates forward, USCIS can cash in lot of reveue as it has to issue only 1 yr EAD in that case. If the dates are not current, they will have to issue 2 yr EAD and although they dont mean to approve many cases, I tend to think they will keep moving dates forward.
